Announcements Soaring to New Heights - Transformational Teaching, Learning, and LeadingMany thanks to the Brown Deer community for your support and investment in our children's education. There’s no better way to invest in our future than to invest in our children to develop a world class school district. We are very excited about the upcoming building project which will be completed by Fall of 2013.
We have already started the planning process to create student-centered schools that are effective, dynamic, financially stable, and best meet the needs of our tech savvy students. Let’s imagine what our children could accomplish in an exceptional 21st century learning environment that incorporates personalized and customized learning, and innovative and flexible classroom spaces where students love to learn and teachers love to teach. This is our goal! We will provide more building project information as it comes available. Stay tuned to our website for more information. Monthly updates will be provided at Finance and Facilities and at our regular Board Meetings. Please feel free to contact us with any questions that you may have. Yours in Education, Dr. Deb Kerr

Links This report reviews some 80 studies of initiatives to lengthen the school day or year or offer learning opportunities outside of school hours. Most of the studies lack the rigor needed for firm evidence of the impact of expanded time efforts on children, the report emphasizes. But the slim evidence available suggests that extending school time can help raise academic achievement, while out-of-school opportunities can boost “precursors” to achievement, such as educational expectations. And in all cases, program quality and implementation “matter a great deal.” This report summarizes the discussion at a Wallace Foundation national forum of leaders in education, after-school programming, government and other areas to discuss expanding learning time for disadvantaged youngsters. Attendees tempered excitement about growing interest and experimentation in more learning time with a general acknowledgement that much more needs to be learned about what works and what doesn’t A great resource for real life, real answers about health questions. |
